History
Perhaps “the Scottish Play” isn’t so bad. After a successful production of Macbeth at the Santa Fe Playhouse in 2015, Patrick Briggs, Kelly Kiernan and Suzanne Burstall Cross met to brainstorm about launching a Shakespearean theater company in Santa Fe. The trio recruited Jennifer and Michael Graves and Lynn and Ann Roylance to form Santa Fe Classic Theater.
However, after founding member Michael Graves passed away after battling cancer, a true launch was put on hold until 2019, when the team was approached by Santa Fe Botanical Garden to produce the annual Shakespeare in the Garden event. Their inaugural production of Romeo & Juliet opened in May 2019 to sold out audiences. Their sophomore production Seven Ages of Woman opened later that fall.
